MVP Sports Foundation and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan was able to bring basketball superstars in the Ultimate All Star Weekend.
The 2 day event was very successful,basketball enthusiast gathered at Araneta Coliseum to witness history. NBA superstars visited the Philippines to play and give Filipinos fans a great show. Smart All Star is consists of NBA players,reigning MVP Derrick Rose, 2 MVP Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, James Harden, Tyreke Evans, JaVale McGee, and Derrick Williams came and play against Smart Gilas Pilipinas and PBA stars.
In their first game last Saturday against PBA players, it was a close game in the first half but on the 2nd half, Smart All Star started to get hot from the outside. Kobe's team had a 30 point lead that went to an open basketball and resulted into several slam dunks. Final score PBA 105 Smar All Star 131.
Sunday, they play against Smart Gilas Pilipinas or the Philippine national basketball team. Not like PBA players who took their game as a great opportunity to play with their idols, the nationals challenge the Smart All Smart. Japeth Aguilar went for a slam, Chris Tiu, Jimmy Alapag and Dondon Hontiveros went for 3 point shots and Marcus Douthit play tough defense.Smart All Star answer the challenge with their defense and tough shots. Final score Smart Gilas Pilipinas 89 Smart All Star 98.
After the game, NBA superstars gave away their shoes and jerseys. Dondon Hontiveros went home with a Kobe Bryant jersey.
It was the NBA superstars turn to be star struck, they meet pound for pound king Cong. Manny Pacquiao. Kevin Durant and Chris Paul approached Pacquiao to have some pictures with him.
Chot Reyes planned to take the NBA players to Boracay but all of them have to go back, they have important commitments back home.
