Sanchez was saved by the judges after she got the lowest votes and since then she received an amount of support from the Mexican and Filipino community. The 3 judges are very open on how amazing Jessica is, that they decided to give her another shot.
Phillips on the other, has always been safe because of the screaming ladies voting for him. He always wanted to be different, always wanted to put his own flavor when it comes to music and that sets him apart from the other hopefuls.
The last female AI winner was Jordin Sparks back in Season 6. Maybe after 5 seasons, another female will be the next American Idol.
